LEVAN, Juab County — A Juab County man was charged Tuesday with trying to run teenage boys off the road with his truck and then shooting at one of the boy's fathers.
Dallein LeGrande Mangelson, 27, of Levan, is charged in 4th District Court with aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm, third-degree felonies; carrying a gun while under the influence and reckless driving, class B misdemeanors; and intoxication, a class C misdemeanor.
On May 29, "Mangelson drove a motor vehicle at high speeds in Levan Canyon and ran a couple of teenage boys off the road, one of them into a ditch," according to charging documents.
Later, he chased a 14-year-old boy on a dirt bike down Main Street in Levan while speeding, the charges state. The boy drove to his home where he told his father what was happening. The father confronted Mangelson "who then drove off while yelling something at the father."
Mangelson drove home and the boy's father followed. Once Mangelson got to his house, he went inside and retrieved a handgun, "exited the house, and pointed the handgun at the father's windshield. The father ducked down, reversed his vehicle, and drove away. As the father drove away, Mangelson fired a bullet at the father's vehicle. The bullet did not strike the vehicle," charging documents allege.
Police were called and took Mangelson into custody. At the police station, Mangelson, who admitted he had been drinking, was determined to have a 0.064% blood-alcohol level, the charges say.
