LEVAN, Juab County — A Juab County man was arrested Thursday after police say he tried to hit a boy with his truck and then shot at the boy's father.
Dallein LeGrande Mangelson, 27, was booked into the Juab County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm, carrying a gun while under the influence, interfering with a police officer and public intoxication.
Police say Mangelson tried to run over a neighbor's son, but the boy's age was not provided.
The boy went home to seek help and Mangelson arrived shortly after to confront the family, according to a police booking affidavit. The boy's father came out of his home to talk to Mangelson, who by that point had left to go back to his house.
"At that time, Mr. Mangelson was in his own driveway. (The father) reported that Mr. Mangelson brandished a semi-automatic pistol and shot toward him. (The father) was not hit, but assumed the round hit a nearby house," the affidavit states.
No injuries were reported from the shooting.
When deputies arrived at Mangelson's residence, they noted he had "glossy eyes and slurred speech," the arrest report says. Deputies took possession of Mangelson's gun, but said while attempting to take him into custody, he "made furtive movements."
After placing handcuffs on Mangelson, he claimed he "was being harassed" by the boy, whom he said "had been driving around recklessly on a dirt bike," the affidavit states. He also allegedly admitted "that he did produce a pistol and shoot" after being confronted by the boy's father.
