SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man was charged Thursday with kidnapping, drugging and sexually assaulting a woman.
The charges come seven years after a federal indictment was handed down on drug trafficking charges while he was part of a music group.
Angel Domonick Rivera, 32, is now charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated kidnapping and five counts of aggravated sexual assault, first-degree felonies; and aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.
On May 25, Rivera went up to a man and woman who were walking by his home near 300 South and 1050 West, grabbed the woman after pushing the man away, "then took her to his house. (She) said Rivera 'took her to a back window of his house and threw her into the window, into his room.' Rivera then made her take cocaine and took her clothes off," according to charging documents.
After she was sexually assaulted, the woman said she could see police outside through a bathroom window, "and Rivera told her to go back to the basement because the police were looking for her. Rivera then made her leave through the back door and jump over the fence, which caused injuries," the charges state.
After police arrived at the home, Rivera refused to come out.
"Rivera eventually opened the front door. However, he refused to exit the home and concealed a portion of his body behind the door. Rivera stated that if police were going to get him, they would have to kill him. During negotiations, Rivera stepped out of the house and was hit with a beanbag round. Rivera attempted to retreat back into the residence, but officers were able to take Rivera into custody," according to charging documents.
Prosecutors have requested that Rivera be held without the possibility of posting bail pending trial, noting that "in this matter, Rivera allegedly approached and kidnapped a stranger and brutally sexually assaulted her."
She said Rivera "made her snort cocaine before and after the assault," the charges say.
After he was taken into custody, Rivera told police "he eluded officers because he knew he had a federal warrant for his arrest and did not want to go back to prison. He even went so far as to say police would have to kill him to get him. (His) brazen stranger attack shows that he is a serious predator and danger to the community."
In 2018, Rivera was one of 15 people charged in federal court with conspiracy to distribute meth. The group was allegedly part of a group called Glenmob, which frequently posted music videos on YouTube.
