SALT LAKE CITY — Police have arrested a man they say was selling drugs and had more than 6 pounds of meth in his possession.
About 9 a.m. Saturday, Salt Lake's Pioneer Bike Squad received information that possible drug activity was taking place near 2100 S. Redwood. Arriving officers saw what they believed to be a drug deal and, according to a news release, apprehended "the probable buyer" with the assistance of the Cottonwood Heights Police Department's K-9 team.
The officers seized 2.2 pounds of meth from the man's car, the release says. Upon the receipt of a court-authorized search warrant, police say they then examined the vehicle and found an additional 4.3 pounds of meth as well as $6,258 in cash.
"We will never stop going after drug traffickers in our city. We will use the full weight of the criminal justice system to hold them accountable," said Salt Lake Police Chief Brian Redd in a statement. He also said that disturbing a meth supply chain is "a major win for our officers and the city."
Police said the case remains under investigation, and the names of those involved were withheld "to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation."
