MURRAY — A 29-year-old man was arrested over the weekend and accused of shooting at a truck with people inside in Murray.

Omar Andres Pinto was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of illegal shooting and carrying a weapon while under the influence.

Late Saturday, a Murray police officer was investigating a possible burglary near 6300 S. State when he noticed a man standing near a pickup truck about a block away. "I saw the pickup truck start to back out and heard a loud bang that sounded like a gunshot or a firework," according to a police booking affidavit.

The pedestrian walked off while the occupants of the pickup drove toward the officer.

"The driver and passenger in the truck told me they were just shot at by the male," according to the affidavit.

Backup officers were called and Pinto was located nearby and detained. He had a gun in his pocket, the affidavit says.

A shell casing was found at the address where Pinto had been talking to the people in the truck. The truck owner later called police back to say a bullet hole was found in the passenger-side rear wheel well, according to the affidavit.

"Omar fired a handgun at strangers due to allegations that were unclear and unlikely," police concluded in the arrest report.
