KANAB — Rescue crews found the body of a man who was overdue from camping in southern Utah.

Around noon on Sunday, the Kane County Sheriff's Office received a report of a potential overdue person who had been camping at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. That morning, individuals realized a vehicle had been there for several days but they hadn't seen the owner.

Kane County sheriff's deputies discovered Neal Mower, 67, of Ivins, had purchased a one-day pass for the state park on Thursday morning. Crews started searching the man's vehicle and trailer but didn't find "anything out of the ordinary," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Deputies spoke with campers nearby, contacted Ivins police to search the man's residence and worked with Mower's cellphone company to find his last-known location. Crews searched until dark Sunday, then resumed the rescue efforts Monday.

A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter found Mower's body Monday about 1.8 miles away from his vehicle. His body was taken to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner to determine his cause of death.
