MURRAY — A Murray man was charged Friday with ramming another vehicle twice on the freeway during a road rage confrontation.
Nyang Joseph Chuol, 21, is charged in 3rd District Court with three counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of failing to stop for police, third-degree felonies; plus interfering with an officer and two counts of causing an accident, class B misdemeanors. The reckless endangerment charges come with road rage penalty enhancements if convicted.
On April 10, Taylorsville police spotted a pickup truck being followed by a BMW near 2600 W. Taylorsville Blvd. The officer "heard the truck driver say, 'He's trying to kill me,'" according to charging documents.
Both vehicles appeared to initially pull over for the officer, but the BMW then took off on 5400 South.
"The BMW continued east toward Redwood Road. The BMW increased its speed as it fled," the charges state.
A pursuing officer found the BMW "crashed on the side of the road at 5300 S. Allendale Drive," but the vehicle then drove off again, according to the charges.
The BMW was next found in a yard at 623 W. Capri Drive, where Chuol had gotten out of his car. The officer exited her vehicle and ordered Chuol to stop, but he then ran back into his car "and only complied with (the officer's) orders when he was held at gunpoint, and even at that point resisted," the charges allege.
The driver of the truck told police that he was at a red light, waiting to turn left, when the BMW drove past him and then backed up and began yelling at him. The driver of the truck pulled into a gas station, where "the BMW driver got out and started making threats toward (the driver) and said that his friends are coming to assault (him)," according to the charges.
The truck driver left the gas station, and Chuol followed him onto I-215, "where he sped up to 90 mph and rammed him twice in the rear," the charges state.
The truck driver got off the freeway at Redwood Road and drove toward the Taylorsville Police Department, where the officer who eventually made the arrest saw him.
