LEHI — A California man wanted in Las Vegas in an attempted murder investigation was arrested following a chase in Utah on Sunday.
Anthony Egure-Ordaz, 43, of Fresno, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of fleeing from police in addition to having a full extradition warrant out of Nevada.
A Spanish Fork police officer spotted Egure-Ordaz at about 8 p.m. Sunday in a hotel parking lot after police in Nevada had issued an "attempt to locate." The officer then attempted to pull over Egure-Ordaz's maroon Nissan Armada.
"I turned on my overhead lights and sirens in an attempt to gain compliance from the Armada. I observed the Armada failed to stop at the stop sign at Canyon Creek and Kirby Lane. The Armada then made its way to U.S. 6 and began traveling on the right shoulder passing vehicles," the officer wrote in a police booking affidavit.
After Egure-Ordaz entered I-15, he pulled away from the officer, the affidavit states.
A Lehi police officer then spotted Egure-Ordaz on the freeway about 8:15 p.m. The officer followed without chasing him as Utah Highway Patrol troopers, Utah County sheriff's deputies and later Sandy police officers positioned themselves.
Egure-Ordaz exited the freeway in Sandy and after committing several traffic violations — possibly because he knew he was being followed at that point — officers turned on their lights and sirens to stop him, according to Lehi police spokeswoman Jeanteil Livingston.
Following a brief chase, a Lehi officer stopped the fleeing vehicle at 9830 S. State by performing a PIT maneuver, disabling Egure-Ordaz's car by hitting it. After the vehicle was stopped, a short standoff ensued until Egure-Ordaz surrendered a short time later, Livingston said. He was taken into custody about 10 p.m.
Nevada authorities will now work on extraditing him to their state to face charges.
