TOULOUSE, France — Rugby fans cheered not only for their teams last weekend but also when a parachutist was rescued from the stadium roof.
The parachutist, identified as Capt. Yannick Trouillet, was part of a group tasked with carrying the match ball onto the field in Toulouse, France, on Sunday, ahead of the European Rugby Champions Cup game.
Video shows Trouillet descended quickly before his chute got snagged on the stadium awning.
He dangled over the crowd while stadium officials — as well as a team mascot dressed as a lion — raced to create a makeshift crash mat from nearby inflatables.
Video shows rescuers then used a crane to retrieve Trouillet, as onlookers cheered.
It appears he was not hurt, but the match was delayed by 40 minutes.
Toulouse posted an Instagram video about the pre-match drama, joking: "We know seats are going fast, but you're forcing it here."
It also thanked emergency crews for saving the day.
