SALT LAKE CITY — A 19-year-old woman is in critical condition after her motorcycle collided with a car in Salt Lake City Friday.

About 6:50 p.m., a truck was turning left off of State Street to 1300 South when the driver hit the brakes and a northbound motorcyclist slammed into the truck, Salt Lake City spokesman Yaier Javaid said. Details on what caused the truck driver to step on the brakes was not available.

When officers arrived, they located a woman on the ground with "potentially life-threatening injuries," Salt Lake City police said in a statement. The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Initial information provided by police indicated the woman was in her 30s, but has since been found to be inaccurate, according to a social media post by police on Saturday.

Further details about the crash were not immediately available, but police said impairment does not appear to be a factor.
