OGDEN — A Utah family is mourning after their mother was shot and killed in Ogden.

Police said they found the woman lying in the road on the 400 block of 800 North on Wednesday. While they have not released the name of the victim, family members have identified her as Nakeena Youngman, 40, of Salt Lake City.

Family members told KSL-TV they are stunned by what happened. They want answers — and justice.

"It's hard," said Adrianna Lopez, Youngman's daughter. "I just want to know what happened to her."

Lopez said her mom was supposed to come home Wednesday night but didn't. Lopez got the unthinkable news Thursday morning.

"Police officers came to my house early in the morning to tell me my mom was deceased," Lopez said.

Ogden police said the victim had been shot in the chest. She was taken to the hospital, where she died. An investigation is now underway.

"It's kind of hard right now to process this or to think that she's actually gone," said Lopez, "or why would that person just leave my mom on the side of the road like that."

Lopez said her mother lived in the Rose Park neighborhood of Salt Lake City but had gone to Ogden to visit friends. She doesn't know what happened after that.

Youngman had six children, Lopez said, with the youngest 6 years old. Youngman was also a grandmother to Lopez's daughter.

Family members are leaning on each other as they deal with this devastating news.

"My mom was fun. She was outgoing," Lopez remembered. "She was the light of the room."

Ogden police haven't released any more details about the shooting, only that there doesn't appear to be any danger to the public. They're asking anyone with information about what happened to call them.

"I just want my mom to get justice," Lopez said.
