WEST JORDAN — A man was charged Thursday with stabbing an employee at a towing service in West Jordan last month.

Juan Jair Zamudio-Pinedo, 29, of West Jordan, is charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal trespassing, a class B misdemeanor.

On March 20, employees witnessed Zamudio-Pinedo and a woman approach a vehicle in the towing yard at Advanced Towing Services, 1340 W. 7900 South. The two were grabbing things in the vehicle when an employee told them that wasn't allowed, and they needed to leave, police said.

Zamudio-Pinedo shouted at the employee then got into a fight with him and pepper-sprayed the employee, a warrant for his arrest states. A chase ensued between the two men, and the employee was stabbed in the stomach and leg. Zamudio-Pinedo then fled the scene, police said.

The investigation revealed the car Zamudio-Pinedo was taking things from had been impounded by police a month earlier while Zamudio-Pinedo was driving it, and Zamudio-Pinedo had been arrested at the time. Police also located cocaine in a plastic wrapper in the man's wallet, one of the items that had been taken out of the vehicle.

It is unclear whether the vehicle belonged to Zamudio-Pinedo.

A warrant for Zamudio-Pinedo's arrest was issued Thursday.
