SALT LAKE CITY — A Syracuse man who was sentenced to up to 40 years in prison in October is now facing new criminal charges.

Ryan Kelly Goodrich, 41, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with theft by deception, a second-degree felony, and contracting without a license, a class A misdemeanor.

In July 2023, a Salt Lake resident hired Goodrich for a garage project.

"Goodrich represented himself as a licensed contractor and accepted an initial deposit of $17,500," according to charging documents. "Since the initial deposit, only the old garage was demolished but no other work was done. When (the victim) contacted Goodrich about this, Goodrich would not give a straight answer as to what was going on or when the remainder of the work would be done."

In October, Goodrich, while working as a title agent, was sentenced to at least three years and up to 40 years in the Utah State Prison for swindling clients out of over $6.5 million.
