SALT LAKE CITY — Happy St. Patrick's Day. Celebrations of the holiday began on Saturday in Salt Lake City with the 47th annual St. Patrick's Day parade along The Gateway.
Dressed in green and gold, revelers danced, sang, marched at cheered during the parade. Irish Minister of State Alan Dillon served as grand marshal in the parade. Deseret News photojournalist Tess Crowley captured the fun and festivities (see the gallery).
St. Patrick's Day is also being marked in cities across the country on Monday with boisterous parades and celebrations.
New York City hosts one of the largest and oldest parades in the United States. Major celebrations are also planned on Monday in Savannah, Georgia, and other American communities, though some of the cities most transformed by Irish immigration held festivities over the weekend.
