EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A criminal charge was filed Friday against an Eagle Mountain mother accused of falling asleep in her bathtub with her infant daughter, resulting in the drowning death of the 2-month-old girl.
Taylor Nichole Trusty, 24, is charged in 4th District Court with manslaughter, a second-degree felony.
On March 7, Trusty took a bath in her home with her 2-month-old daughter, Isla, nearby, according to charging documents. Trusty "told police that she routinely takes three- to four-hour baths and regularly falls asleep while doing so."
On this night, Isla was fussy so Trusty placed the infant "face up on (Trusty's) straight legs in the bathtub, with Isla's head and torso on her thighs and Isla's feet on (Trusty's) abdomen, and fell asleep," the charges state.
About three hours later, at approximately 1 a.m., another child found Trusty asleep in the bathtub and Isla face down in the water, according to the charges.
"911 was called, but Isla was no longer breathing and was declared deceased," the charges state.
Trusty told police she had been drinking alcohol before and during her bath and police noted "cans and bottles were on the bathroom floor when police arrived."
