SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah man who works in a Salt Lake school has been arrested and accused of possessing child sex abuse material.

Erik Phillip Roan, 31, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday for investigation of four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

"Erik works for a school in the Salt Lake County area and has access and is around young children," a police booking affidavit states.

On the website for the Guadalupe Center in Salt Lake City, he listed as the associate director of development. "Erik Roan is part of our fundraising team and effective immediately has been placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation," the school's director said in a statement sent to KSL.com. "This decision has been made to ensure a thorough and impartial review of the matter in question."

The investigation began in June 2024 when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip that child sex abuse material was being uploaded. The tip was passed on to Utah's Internet Crimes Against Children task force for further investigation.

On Wednesday, task force members served a search warrant at Roan's home. Images of child sex abuse material were found on an undisclosed social media account on Roan's phone, the affidavit alleges.
