MURRAY — A South Jordan man was arrested Tuesday and accused of looking into stalls in the women's restroom at Fashion Place Mall.

Anthony Elizabeth Nguyen, 29, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of two counts of voyeurism.

On Jan.17, a woman reported to police that she was using the restroom at the mall, 6191 S. State, when "a male attempted to look into her stall." Police reviewed surveillance video from the mall and observed a man matching the description given by the woman as he was leaving in a white or silver sedan, according to a police booking affidavit.

Then on Feb. 28, a second woman using the women's restroom stated that a man looked into her stall. The man ran off after the woman told him, "You need to get out of here!" That woman gives a similar description of her voyeur as the first woman, the affidavit states.

Police again checked surveillance video and "determined that the male was the same person and the vehicle resembled" the same car he fled in before, according to the affidavit. Officers also "viewed security footage from the parking lot showing that the male parked, entered into the mall and went straight to the restroom waiting area. ... (Police) could see that a phone was in his hand and it was placed up in a manner that seemed to be positioned for the male to watch the screen and people entering and exiting the restroom. The male entered the women's restroom for several minutes before emerging and running away."

This time, police were able to read the car's license plate from the video. Detectives came up with Nguyen as a possible suspect and brought him in for questioning.

At first, Nguyen told detectives that he needed to use the restroom and "mistook the women's restroom for the men's restroom," according to the affidavit.

After further questioning, however, Nguyen "stated a voice tells him to look at women in the restroom. Anthony admitted to using the women's bathroom at the mall to look inside stalls at women."

Nguyen was then arrested. Police say they will be obtaining a search warrant to go through his phone.
