SALT LAKE CITY — A Denver man is facing new criminal charges in Utah after police say he threatened to "blow up the plane" because he didn't want to be extradited back to Colorado to face charges in that state.

Ray Ivan Wolfe, III, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with making a terroristic threat, a second-degree felony; and two counts of assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony.

On Feb. 25, a Colorado Probation and Parole officer was attempting to board a plane with Wolfe and fly him back to Colorado when he said Wolfe "became upset."

"Wolfe stated that he was going to crash the plane and that he was going to break into the cockpit and crash the plane," the charges allege.

When Wolfe requested to talk to a Salt Lake police officer at the airport, he again stated he would "'blow up the plane' if they took him," according to charging documents. Wolfe then became more upset and allegedly kicked the officer in the leg. After backup officers responded, Wolfe is accused of kicking the same officer again and a second one.

"Wolfe made statements to officers that he assaulted them in hopes of avoiding being extradited, and he made terroristic threats/statements in a crowded airport while passengers waited to board an airplane," the charges state.

At that point, police say Wolfe was denied entry onto the plane and was taken back to the Salt Lake County Jail where he is being held on the warrant out of Colorado and his new charges.
