SALT LAKE CITY — After a cold first quarter, Davis sparked a 46-15 run over two quarters to overcome its early struggles to clinch a spot in the 6A title game Wednesday with a 74-60 win over Layton.

Davis had four players in double-figures, with Coleman Atwater leading the way at 18 points and Bode Sparrow pouring in 17 points and three steals.

Layton opened the game hot, hitting multiple 3-pointers — most of them coming from Karter Miller, who had three in the first quarter alone.

Layton controlled every aspect of the game early as Davis got good looks but hit the front rim on nearly every 3-point attempt.

But the second quarter was another story. Davis was the one with the hot hand, hitting 3-pointer after 3-pointer to climb all the way back and trail by 1 point after trailing by 13 points. Suddenly, Davis had a 23-21 lead and had completely flipped the script of the game in four minutes.

"The last two times we played them, they have come out with a hot start and we are prepared for it," Sparrow said. "But we took their punch and we punched right back."

At half, Davis led Layton 28-25 after a blistering second quarter that immediately turned the game on its head.

The Darts remained sharp after the break and continued to hit everything they set their sights on. A 3-point lead blossomed into an 11-point lead two minutes into the second half as Layton seemingly had no answer for the Darts.

Not only could Layton not stop Davis, they couldn't get shots to fall.

Davis used a 20-7 run in the third quarter to extend its lead to 16, setting up the Darts to compete for its second state title since 2021.

Layton, however, raised its intensity and employed a full-court press that gave the Darts fits. A game-high 21-point lead suddenly dwindled to 13.

The Lancers hit a 3-pointer to open the fourth quarter to add to the comeback, but Davis quickly responded by hitting two of their own to get the lead back up to 16 to hold off Layton's chances.

Herriman's strong fourth quarter overpowers Corner Canyon

Boxscore

Herriman shot 48% from the field while outscoring Corner Canyon 19-7 in the fourth quarter en route to a 64-55 victory and a date with Davis in the 6A state title game.

Despite a slow start, Herriman overcame multiple deficits and adversities to overpower the Chargers to earn the championship game berth.

The Chargers opened up the game with a 20-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, thanks, in part, to hot shooting and rebounding. Through just eight minutes, the No. 1 seed was facing an 8-point deficit in just the fifth game this season after the first quarter.

When the two teams met earlier in the season, Herriman had the roles reversed and jumped out to a 20-6 lead.

Herriman quickly erased the deficit in the second quarter, though, and capped off a 13-0 run that began in the first quarter to take a 21-20 lead with 4:30 left in the half.

The two teams traded 3-pointers, with both sides hitting two each as the game to knot the game up 27-27 with two minutes to play in the half. Herriman's Zach Tanner hit a buzzer-beating layup to give the Mustangs a 33-31 lead at the break.

It was all Corner Canyon in the third quarter as Noah Bendinger poured in a majority of the team's 19 points in the quarter to take a 48-45 lead going into the final frame.

But the No. 1 seed went to work, and Herriman outscored the Chargers 19-7 in the fourth quarter, backed by Cale Barclay, who finished with 28 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the win.
