NEPHI — An ongoing joint investigation with state and federal agencies led to a large drug bust on Wednesday.

Investigators had learned information about a Jeep Grand Cherokee bringing "large quantities of narcotics into Utah," according to a police booking affidavit. On Wednesday, agents spotted the Jeep on I-15 in Nephi and pulled it over.

"During a search of the vehicle, agents located approximately 50,000 M30 fentanyl pills and over 2 pounds of heroin," the affidavit states.

Miguel Mario Soto de Santiago, 23, was arrested for investigation of two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute.

"Santiago said that he was doing it at the direction of an individual in Mexico, and was going to get paid U.S. currency for the delivery. Santiago admitted to being in the country illegally from Mexico," according to the affidavit. Santiago told officers he had been living in Utah for a month.

The investigation involved officers from the Davis County Metro Narcotics Strike Force, Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI.
