PROVO β BYU's 101st football season in program history will kick off in 207 days at LaVell Edwards Stadium. But who's counting?
The Big 12 Conference unveiled the home-and-away schedules for the second year of the 16-team league Tuesday morning in a simulcast special across ESPN, FOX and Turner television properties.
With a returning starting quarterback in Jake Retzlaff, top pass catcher in Chase Roberts and top rusher in rising junior tailback LJ Martin all back (among others), the Cougars will play four home games β including the return of the in-state rivalry game against Utah to LaVell Edwards Stadium β and five on the road.
The road trips are highlighted by an Alamo Bowl rematch with Colorado coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes on Sept. 27 at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado β a game the Cougars won 36-14 that drew a bowl game-record television audience of 8 million viewers. Colorado is one of two teams on BYU's schedule that finished the 2024 season ranked in the Associated Press Top 25; the No. 25 Buffs are joined by 15th-ranked Iowa State.
BYU's season opens with back-to-back home games beginning Saturday, Aug. 30 against Big Sky foe Portland State and second-year ACC program Stanford on Saturday, Sept. 6.
A trip to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium to face East Carolina in Greenville, North Carolina β a carryover contract from the Cougars' days as an FBS independent β will wrap up nonconference play Sept. 20 before league play begins on the final weekend of September in Boulder.
West Virginia comes to Provo to open the conference slate at home Oct. 3. After a trip to Arizona, BYU hosts the Utes on Oct. 18, which is also the Cougars' homecoming game.
BYU plays three of its final five games on the road at Iowa State, Texas Tech and Cincinnati before the regular-season finale Nov. 29 against UCF at home.
