GALLE, Sri Lanka — Sri Lanka is staring down the barrel at 44-3 after Australia achieved its largest ever total in Asia — 654-6 declared — on day two of the first test in Galle. Fatigued after spending five and a half sessions under the scorching sun, Sri Lanka's batting resistance was minimal. Oshada Fernando and former captains Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews fell for 7 each. Australia captain Steve Smith pushed on to 141 and opener Usman Khawaja racked up 232, the highest individual score in tests between the teams. Josh Inglis added a whirlwind 102 in Australia's massive total with three days to go on a deteriorating pitch.
