SANDY — A Unified police patrol vehicle was struck by a car while going through an intersection Friday, according to Sgt. Aymee Race, and both drivers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
At about 9:11 p.m., an officer with the Unified Police Department was "attempting to clear an intersection" at 4800 S. State St. heading east with emergency lights flashing, Race said. A car going north through their green light struck the squad car, according to Race.
The crash happened while Unified police detectives were chasing what they believed to be a stolen vehicle from Murray to South Salt Lake, back to Murray, ending in Sandy, Race said.
Detectives spiked the car in Murrary, but the driver continued driving on the rims of the vehicle during the chase, according to Race, which was followed by the Department of Public Safety helicopter, as well.
The driver of the alleged stolen vehicle, whose identity was not released, was later arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
