SALT LAKE CITY — Police arrested a man who is accused of stabbing another man so severely his intestines were visible.
Salt Lake City police received information about an assault near 1470 S. State Street Thursday evening. After arriving, officers located a man with a critical injury to his stomach.
"Officers on the scene observed that the victim's intestines were visible," a police booking affidavit states. The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Police said officers located Nathaniel Ferguson, 24, at the scene and took him into custody.
Officers said they located a large kitchen knife near the sidewalk where the stabbing happened.
Ferguson told officers in an interview that he had stabbed the other man and "stated that the victim had requested that he be stabbed," the police booking affidavit says.
Police did not describe the relationship between the two men but said it appears to have been an isolated incident.
The affidavit states Ferguson was "unfazed" by the incident and the severity of the injury. Police said there is an active protective order against Ferguson.
Ferguson was arrested for investigation of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
