Utah State secures 75-68 win over Saint Mary's

MORAGA, Calif. — In a tough matchup on Sunday, Utah State secured a win over Saint Mary's with a 75-68 victory at the UCU Pavilion in Moraga, California.

The Aggies initiated the game with remarkable energy, particularly from sophomore forward Karson Templin, who ignited a 13-2 run by sinking three consecutive 3-pointers.

The offensive burst propelled Utah State to a 17-7 lead. And though the Gaels responded with a run that narrowed the gap to a single point, Utah State closed the half by scoring 16 of the final 20 points.

Senior forward Aubin Gateretse led the team with 10 points, contributing to a 39-27 halftime advantage.

Maintaining the momentum, the Aggies extended their lead to as much as 17 points, highlighted by a personal 6-0 run from freshman guard Jordy Barnes.

Despite a resilient effort from Saint Mary's, who managed to reduce the deficit to 10 points with seven and a half minutes remaining, Utah State preserved their composure.

The Gaels' late surge, scoring 10 points in the final two and a half minutes, was insufficient to overcome the Aggies' lead, ending in a 75-68 final score.

The Aggies dominated the paint with a 40-22 scoring advantage and outrebounded the Gaels 31-27, despite Saint Mary's entering the game with a strong rebounding reputation.

Additionally, Utah State had great ball movement, recording assists on 23 of their 30 made baskets.

This victory concludes Utah State's nonconference schedule, improving their record to 11-1. The Aggies now embark on a three-game road trip, beginning with a matchup against San Diego State on Dec. 28.

Meanwhile, Saint Mary's, with a 10-3 record, will aim to rebound in their upcoming contests as they prepare for conference play.

Mason Falslev: The sophomore guard led all scorers with 18 points and added five rebounds, showcasing efficiency with a 72.7% field goal percentage.

Karson Templin: Contributing 13 points, Templin's early three-point shooting was instrumental in establishing the Aggies' initial lead.

Ian Martinez: The fifth-year guard filled the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, and a team-high five assists, demonstrating versatility and leadership.

Aubin Gateretse: The senior forward added 10 points on 71.4% shooting, including multiple dunks that energized the team.
