CLINTON — Police say a man who shot and killed another man in Clinton in self-defense will not face charges.
On Nov. 28 at 1 a.m., police officers arrived at a home near 2600 W. 2250 North in Clinton for reports of gunshots. Keith Miller, 40, and Jacob Pluim, 35, were located inside with gunshot wounds.
Pluim died on the scene from his injuries. Miller was transported to the hospital but died shortly after arriving, police said.
Clinton police said in a press release Friday that Miller had arrived at Pluim's home as an invited guest on Nov. 27. When Miller attempted to leave later that night, Pluim confronted him and fired multiple shots.
"In response to this initial incident, another adult male — who had not been involved up to that point — armed himself with the intent to protect himself and the others inside the home. He attempted to communicate with Mr. Pluim. Due to Mr. Pluim's actions during this interaction, the male ultimately fired shots, resulting in Mr. Pluim's death," police said.
Multiple witnesses in the home observed the incident and described the sequence of events in the same way. There was no police activity at the residence prior to this incident, police said.
Police did not release the identity of the third man, but said the Davis County Attorney's Office declined to file charges against him.
