ALPINE — One person was critically injured in an early-morning crash on state Route 92 in American Fork Canyon.

"That vehicle has gone off the road and rolled over onto its top and slid down a ravine where it hit a tree," Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden said. "That tree has come over on top of the vehicle and is currently blocking the roadway."

Roden added that crews were working to extricate the driver and state Route 92 was closed in both directions as crews try to extricate the driver and remove the tree from the roadway.

"It's really hard to get down into this ravine ... and it's just taken them a while to get this extrication done," Roden said.

He expected the road to be closed until at least 10:30 a.m.
