PROVO — Five people were taken to the hospital after a truck crashed into an ambulance in Provo Tuesday.
About 2:45 p.m., a Provo ambulance was transporting a patient on Cougar Boulevard. As it was going west through the intersection at Freedom Boulevard, all vehicles were yielding except a southbound Toyota Tacoma, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
The front of the Tacoma collided with the front passenger side of the ambulance, causing the ambulance to hit a pole in the center-raised median, UHP Lt. Cameron Roden said. The Toyota came to a rest near the driveway of a nearby Arby's.
Four EMS workers inside the ambulance were taken to the hospital in serious condition, along with the original patient who was being transported. The Tacoma driver was also taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Lane closures were in place for a few hours while the crash scene was being investigated and cleared.
