KEY TAKEAWAYS
  • KSL.com has introduced the Key Takeaways feature, using AI to help create article summaries.
  • The feature aims to enhance readers' experience by summarizing key points. All summaries are reviewed and edited by journalists.
  • Readers are encouraged to provide feedback about the feature through a survey.

SALT LAKE CITY — KSL.com is seeking feedback on a new feature that is designed to help readers better consume news through article summary points.

The Key Takeaways feature includes bullet points of information to provide a condensed synopsis of the article's content. The feature is used with many articles to help readers quickly and more easily understand the main points of each story.

The takeaways are generated using in-house large language models developed by the tech teams at KSL.com. All Key Takeaways are reviewed, edited and approved by reporters and editors. Artificial intelligence is not used for any content in news stories, only as a tool to generate the Key Takeaways.

"We hope these quick summaries on many of our stories provide another tool for readers to help them decide which stories they want to read and to engage with," said KSL.com News Director Brian West.

An editor's note is included at the end of every article using Key Takeaways, which reads, "The Key Takeaways for this article were generated with the assistance of large language models and reviewed by our editorial team. The article, itself, is solely human-written."

KSL.com is asking for feedback from readers on this new feature through an online survey to be filled out here. The survey asks readers for their impression of the Key Takeaways, whether it is helpful, how it may have changed the user experience on KSL.com and whether the feature is beneficial for news consumption.
