HURRICANE — One person is dead after a police pursuit led to a car crash on Wednesday.

According to a news release, officers responded to a call of retail theft at Lin's Supermarket on 1120 W. State in Hurricane.

The alleged thief left the store and officers began pursuing, with the chase going on through La Verkin and Toquerville before officers lost sight of the suspected vehicle. When they eventually located it at an undisclosed location, it had crashed.

"The suspect had been ejected from his vehicle and was found deceased and protocol was followed," said the city's release.

The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and the investigation is ongoing. The name of the man who died has not been released.
