OREM — Utah Valley has been playing from behind in the conference standings of the WAC, ranking second to last with 4 points and three games to go.
The Wolverines were tested against the Rebels, who are tied for fourth with 7 points mostly from ties, and could jump up to fourth place with a win. But a 0-0 draw at Clyde Field resulted in the Wolverines getting just 1 point with three crucial games to go on their season.
The first half had little to no action, with just six shots total between the two teams and only one coming on target that had no real chance of going in that left spectators empty and no action for the first 45 minutes of play.
It remained that way most of the game, too.
After attempting just four shots in the first half, Utah Valley attempted only four more the rest of the game, with only one more coming on target.
The Wolverines continually got the ball into the box, but the stout defense of UNLV kept the net empty with no real threat to score despite solid cross attempts. UNLV did not put much of a fight up on the offensive side either, attempting six shots, with two on target.
Utah Valley will be at red alert for its final two games, though. The Wolverines will take on Utah Tech on senior night on Monday to try and get 3 points there. After that, they take on the No. 1 team in the conference, San Diego State, and round up regular season play against California Baptist.
Utah Valley will likely have to muster up at least 4 points to have a fighting chance for a top-six seed to go to the conference tournament.
The current standings as of Oct. 24 are as follows:
1. San Diego State - 16 points
2. Seattle U - 13 points
3. San Joes State - 8 points
4. Utah Tech - 8 points
5. UNLV - 8 points
6. Grand Canyon - 7 points
7. CBU - 7 points
8. UTRGV - 6 points
9. Utah Valley - 5 points
10. Air Force - 3 points
The Wolverines and Trailblazers kickoff at 6 p.m. MDT on Monday at Clyde Field.
