LOS ANGELES — Light-hearted rookie hazing isn't uncommon in the NBA. But would anyone dare pull a prank on LeBron "Bronny" James Jr., son of one of the game's all-time legends?
His father absolutely would.
Hours before the Los Angeles Lakers played their first game of the 24-25 season on Tuesday — a game that included the historic debut of LeBron James and his son playing on the same team at the same time — a video was released allegedly showing the two getting ready to go to the arena.
The video begins with the GOAT dumping a box of Fruity Pebbles through the sunroof into Bronny's car, all while James holds a big smile on his face. When James Jr. comes out and opens the driver's side door, a river of cereal comes out of the car, looking something like grain coming out of a silo.
"Hey rook, better not be late," LeBron tells his son from the back seat of his car as he's about to drive off.
"Yo, are you serious?" Bronny replies.
"Hey, clean up my driveway. It's a mess," the father jokingly orders his son.
"You're too old for this," Bronny tells the 39-year-old James as he drives off. "You're way too old for this, man."
The video was the latest promotion by Nike, celebrating the debut of the first father-son duo to play in a game together in NBA history.
Real or not, the video immediately made waves among fans.
The Lakers went on to win their opening game, 110-103, against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The old man, who started his record-tying 22nd NBA season, scored 16 points in 35 minutes. Bronny played just three minutes and was held without a point but still received more attention than any other rookie.
