SARATOGA SPRINGS — Lori Sanderson was doing construction work at her mom's apartment in Saratoga Springs when a stranger started pounding at the door Thursday afternoon.
"I came and answered it, and this man pushes me in, and he just said, 'I need help! I need help!" Sanderson said. "And he turned around, and he had a bullet hole in his back."
Sanderson said she kept trying to push the man out.
She believes it was the same man who had been involved in police shooting earlier.
About 3:15 p.m., police officers attempted a traffic stop on a black Mercedes south of Harvest Hills Boulevard. The man was being uncooperative and giving false information to police, said Saratoga Springs Police Chief Andy Burton.
Officers learned the man had previously been involved in serious crimes and was considered armed and dangerous, Burton said.
While two officers were trying to get the man to exit the car, shots were fired. Police did not specify who fired the shots or what prompted the shots to be fired.
The man fled in his vehicle, then ran into a neighborhood, Burton said. Officers apprehended the man and took him into custody. He was then taken to a hospital for an unspecified injury.
Sanderson said she is grateful no one else got hurt.
"It's just scary. If he had a gun or if I hadn't been here ... who knows what could have happened," she said.
