ST. GEORGE — Canadian rider Brandon Semenuk overcame an early crash to win his record-breaking fifth Red Bull Rampage on Saturday.

It was the 18th iteration of the annual mountain biking freeride event, which attracted sold-out crowds to the red rock cliffs near Virgin.

Saturday's finals ended up being shortened due to wind delays, in addition to a crash that required the medical evacuation of last year's winner, Cameron Zink.

The 33-year-old Semenuk, the first of 17 riders to make a run, started off the morning on a strong note, successfully executing a tailwhip maneuver early on but crashing shortly thereafter while attempting a flip whip. He was able to get back on his bike and make it down to the finish line to earn a score of 61.33.
