SOUTH JORDAN — You can't beat yourself against a team as good as Corner Canyon, and that's exactly what Bingham did on Friday.

The Miners tied the game 21-21 late in the third quarter and then forced a missed extra point to start the fourth quarter down 6 points against the No. 1 team in the state.

But Corner Canyon recovered a Miners fumble on the opening drive of the final period, and three consecutive penalties on the following Bingham drive brought any momentum the home team had to a grinding halt.

Corner Canyon senior Zion Finau got his second touchdown of the night with under two minutes remaining to extend the Charger lead to the final score of 37-21.

Charger wide receiver Kai Meza was the star of the game with three touchdown catches from backup-turned-starting quarterback Bronson Evans, who is filling in for Helaman Casuga after the Timpview transfer joined receiver Jerome Myles on the season-ending injury list.

"He stepped up, for sure," Meza said of Evans. "We don't like losing Helaman, but he's been doing great."

The Corner Canyon win snapped a three-game win streak for Bingham and extended the Chargers' win streak to six.

The Miners finish the regular season next week at Mountain Ridge, while Corner Canyon will look to cap off another Region 2 title run next week at Herriman.
