ST. GEORGE — The 37th annual Huntsman World Senior Games opened officially Tuesday night, promoting its message of peace and active aging to participants from over 30 different countries.

Opening ceremonies were held at Burns Arena on the campus of Utah Tech University.

"I think we all know that the Huntsman senior games would not be possible without the help and support of so many people, so many organizations," CEO Kyle Case told the crowd. "First and foremost, can we please get a gigantic round of applause for the nearly 3,000 volunteers who donate their time and talents and expertise."

Those volunteers will be out and about over the next few weeks, conducting 35 sporting events for over 11,000 senior athletes. Over 9,000 medals will be awarded over the course of the games.
