SALT LAKE CITY — One man is dead and another has been taken into police custody after a shooting near 200 S. State in Salt Lake City on Saturday.
About 12:18 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting and located a 30-year-old man with at least one gunshot wound on the ground in the parking lot at 185 S. State. Police and firefighters provided life-saving efforts at the scene, but the man later died.
Farshad Hassan-Pouri, 49, was arrested for investigation of murder. He was taken into police custody near 200 South and 300 East after police reported he had "ran from the scene," on the social platform X. The shooting does not appear to be a random incident.
Detectives learned that a verbal argument began between Hassan-Pouri and the victim. The circumstances of the argument are under investigation, according to the Salt Lake Police Department.
"During the argument, Hassan-Pouri is accused of pulling out a gun, shooting the victim, chasing him and shooting again," Salt Lake police said in a press release.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
