ENOCH, Iron County — The new KJ's Ice Barn in Enoch, Iron County, hosted its first-ever hockey games on Sept. 27 as the Southern Utah Independent high school team hosted the Tooele Outlaws.
The JV-varsity doubleheader marked the first public event held in the newly constructed venue, owned and operated by the family of the late Kerry Jo Fain.
Fain, in whose honor the facility was named using her initials KJ, was a longtime hockey mom who was well-known for her efforts to promote the sport throughout southern Utah. She died of cancer in January at age 42, while KJ's Ice Barn was still under construction.
Fain's family was well represented that night, with Fain's husband Chad Fain serving as Southern Utah's head coach, their daughter Alyssa Fain as assistant coach and their sons Miles, Bo and Luke starting at center ice for the opening face-off.
