SALT LAKE CITY — Olympus ended a two-year losing drought to East last year with a 23-10 win on the road. This year, they earned a two-year winning streak against their fellow Salt Lake City team with a 33-10 win.
Coming off a 13-0 shutout win over Brighton, Olympus was able to keep the momentum going in region play as they easily handled a struggling East side that was limited to just their run game with starting quarterback Dameon Crosby out.
Timmy Thao was in an quarterback for East Friday night, and got some early help with a few penalty flags that helped the Leopards move the chains to the Olympus 1-yard line. But East was stopped short of the goal line on fourth down, turning the ball over on the first possession of the game.
From there, Olympus showcased an impressive opening drive, going the full length of the field for a score. The drive was capped off with a 43-yard touchdown pass from Max Rice to Tommy Nelson to give the Titans an early lead.
Early in the second quarter, Olympus recovered an East fumble to set the Titans up at midfield. But East held strong and recorded a couple of sacks that pushed the Titans into a fourth-and-38.
On the punt attempt, the Titans got backed up further as the snap was off target and missed the punter, sending the ball into the back of the end zone for a safety for the Leopards' first points of the game.
But Rice and the Olympus offense was fueled by the offensive letdown and converted a 22-yard touchdown pass to Sam Ngata to add to the score before the halftime break.
The second half was more the same for Olympus, who added two more passing touchdowns — from 12 yards and 52 yards out — and two made field goals, including a 47-yard kick, in the third quarter.
East had nothing going for itself in blunder after blunder, and eventually fumbled to set up the deep Olympus field goal.
Eventually, East's student section started to clear out when there was no hope for their side to create a passing game, electing to stay true to the run game.
The Leopards finally got the ball moving as Thao found a receiver for a big play; and for only the second time during the game, the Leopards found themselves in the red zone, where Nasio Otukolo rushed into the end zone for a 3-yard touchdown.
The Leopards went for two and got the pass off to Benji Tukuafu Jr. for the final score of the game for both teams.
