CEDAR CITY — A Cedar City man who pleaded guilty to killing his mother in 2020 has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

Joshua James Glover, 36, was sentenced Tuesday in 5th District Court by Judge Matthew L. Bell, who imposed the statutory maximum for the first-degree murder charge to which Glover had ultimately pleaded guilty.

"A prison sentence in this case is not only deserved, it's going to be accompanied by my recommendation that you never be released," Bell told Glover at the conclusion of the 30-minute sentencing hearing.

"The facts of this case are both disturbing and heartbreaking," Bell said as he addressed Glover. "You took the life of the woman who gave you yours. You beat your own elderly mother to death. You sought to cover it up and financially gain from that terrible crime."

As previously reported, Glover was arrested in September 2020 and charged with murder after police found the body of 73-year-old Kay Gosewisch buried underneath a detached outbuilding at her home in Cedar City. She had not been seen for months, while Glover, her only son, had allegedly made multiple withdrawals from her bank accounts.
