ST. GEORGE — In a world where many artists are drawn to the majestic beauty of landscapes, this Southern Utah artist offers quirky and whimsical creations. His hope? To defy the traditional norms and captivate the imagination.
"It keeps me from going crazy," Reece Thompson said about creating art. "If I'm not already."
Thompson's artistic journey began as early as age 3, with vivid memories of drawing since his toddler years. His passion for art led him to the renowned Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he earned a degree in illustration in 1979. The Art Center is celebrated for its prestigious history, including being the birthplace of the first Corvette design and a hub for Tesla's creations.
He worked as a tool maker at Northrop before taking on a variety of jobs, including installing pay phones in South Central Los Angeles, California. Despite his diverse career path, he said he always kept his passion for art alive, continuing to create on the side.
