Women are often very good at taking care of others and it can be difficult for women to prioritize their own health and well-being.
"Women make 80 percent of healthcare decisions for their families. When women are more informed about health and wellness, they are better able to help themselves and their families make healthcare decisions," said Megan Johnson, MPH, a nurse and president of Intermountain Spanish Fork Hospital.
"Our Ladies Night Out events give women an opportunity to focus on their own health and see what health resources are available from their local hospital, as well as local community health organizations," she added.
Intermountain Health is offering Ladies Night Out events at seven hospitals across Utah. These free events are designed to not only help celebrate women's health, but also to teach women more about their healthcare needs through the various decades of their lives.
Ladies Night Out events are scheduled at several Intermountain hospitals along the Wasatch Front, the Wasatch Back, and in Sanpete County, during September and October.
Here's the Ladies Night Out schedule for September and October:
- Intermountain LDS Hospital, Salt Lake City: Tuesday, Sept. 24, 6-8 p.m.
- Intermountain Riverton Hospital, Thursday, Sept. 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
- Intermountain Heber Valley Hospital, Wednesday, Oct. 2, 6-8 p.m.
- Intermountain Medical Center, Murray: Tuesday, Oct. 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
- Intermountain Alta View Hospital, Sandy: Wednesday, Oct. 9, 6-8 p.m.
- Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden: Thursday, Oct. 10, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
- Intermountain Sanpete Valley Hospital, Mt. Pleasant: Wednesday, Oct. 16, 5-7 p.m.
Ladies Night Out events offer a fun atmosphere with interactive displays, health screening information and activities for women to be pampered or opportunities to create something to take home. There will be healthy food options to sample from hospital chefs, prize drawings and more. Local businesses also help provide some of the activities and amenities.
Women of any age can attend. Women are encouraged to invite friends, co-workers, sisters, moms, mother-in-laws, grandmas, daughters, granddaughters or any woman they care about.
The events are a chance to hear from and interact with women's health providers from various medical specialties, such as: women and newborn, behavioral health, mammography, nutrition, and pediatrics, as well as some caregivers who specialize in women's sports medicine, physical therapy, urology, or breast reconstruction.
The first event will kick off Tuesday, Sept. 24 at LDS Hospital from 6-8 p.m.
