NEW YORK — Jannik Sinner has defeated Taylor Fritz in the U.S. Open men's final to end the 2024 Grand Slam season. Sinner began and finished it with titles, winning his first major at the Australian Open in January. The No. 1-ranked player from Italy prevented Fritz from becoming the first American man to win a Grand Slam title since Andy Roddick at the 2003 U.S. Open with his victory Sunday. Aryna Sabalenka also won both hard-court majors this year. Sinner and Sabalenka will try to defend their Australian Open titles when the 2005 tournament begins in Melbourne on Jan. 12.
