VERNAL — One woman is dead and her adult daughter is missing after recreating at Swim Beach on Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

About 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, Sweetwater County dispatchers in Wyoming received a 911 call reporting a possible drowning at the reservoir. The call was then transferred to Vernal dispatchers, who relayed the information to Daggett County Sheriff's Office, Flaming Gorge Ambulance and Green River Fire Department.

Upon arrival, deputies located a man performing CPR on a 60-year-old woman. The man, two eyewitnesses and the woman's adult daughter advised deputies that another woman had not resurfaced and was still missing. The missing woman, a 44-year-old, was identified as the older woman's second daughter.

The 60-year-old woman who was receiving CPR later died, according to Daggett County Sheriff Erik L. Bailey. Search teams worked late into the night and returned Sunday morning to continue search efforts for the missing daughter who was still missing by late Sunday afternoon.

"The Daggett County Sheriff's Office extends its deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased in their time of grief," said Bailey in a prepared statement. "Daggett County Sheriff's Office and Utah State Parks and Recreation would like to remind anyone who is recreating on Utah's lakes to always wear a flotation device."
