MYTON, Duchesne County — A Midvale man was charged Monday with stabbing another man in Duchesne County multiple times.

Casey Lynn Malin, 34, is charged in 8th District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony; two counts of theft of a vehicle or gun and burglary, second-degree felonies; and possession of a gun by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.

The assault happened about 9 p.m. on Thursday, but was not reported until about 5 a.m. Friday after the victim regained consciousness, according to a police booking affidavit.

Investigators say Malin stabbed another man multiple times "without warning."

"(The victim) had four stab wounds to the back of the neck, his back, and one stab wound that went all the way through his right hand," the affidavit states. "Casey was attempting to murder (the victim). The only reason that Casey stopped his assault was because (the victim) had gotten a knife to defend himself."

After the victim regained consciousness, he found Malin "was still outside of his trailer messing with it," according to the affidavit. After a Duchesne County sheriff's deputy arrived on scene, Malin was arrested at gunpoint.

The deputy reported finding Malin had a pocketknife in his possession and "a filed down piece of metal" which is believed to have been used in the attack.

Deputies say a pickup truck Malin attempted to flee in was determined to be stolen, as well as a gun found inside the vehicle.
