SPANISH FORK — A crash involving a Washington County School District bus and a garbage truck in Spanish Fork on Thursday afternoon resulted in multiple students being transported to an area hospital with neck injuries, police said.
The Washington County School bus was carrying around 40 students, according to Spanish Fork Police Lt. Cory Slaymaker.
Slaymaker noted that there were multiple minor injuries and since they were neck injuries, the students were being taken to a hospital.
"There are minor injuries to a few of the students as well as the driver of the garbage truck," Slaymaker said.
The bus was transporting members of the Dixie High School girls soccer team, who are in Utah County playing in a tournament prior to the start of the district's school year on Monday.
The crash took place around 3 p.m. at the intersection of 630 W. 400 North. The garbage truck was eastbound on 400 North and the school bus was westbound on 400 North attempting to turn south toward Spanish Fork High School.
Steve Dunham, a spokesman for the district, said the Alpine School District is going to lend a bus to the team to use because of the crash.
