ROY — One worker was injured after a fire caused extensive interior damage in a Roy home Wednesday, according to Roy Fire Chief Theron Williams.

At 2:15 p.m., the Roy Fire Department Facebook account asked people to stay away from the area of 2900 West and 5700 South due to a structure fire.

About 40 firefighters responded from Roy, Hill Air Force Base, the Weber Fire District, Riverdale and Clinton.

According to firefighters at the scene, a worker was working with the furnace and air conditioning unit when an explosion on the east side of the home occurred. Firefighters were called to the scene at 1:48 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke and fire. They were present when a second explosion happened at the front of the house.

In addition to the injured worker who was transported to Ogden Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, a firefighter developed heat exhaustion before the fire was extinguished.

One side of the home was blown out.

One resident was in the home and is not injured, but residents are displaced due to the fire.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
