LOGAN — The body of a Utah State football player was found Saturday following an apparent drowning at Porcupine Dam in Cache County.
Utah State University confirmed the death of cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. late Saturday night, saying the body of the 5-foot-9, 190-pound defensive back was found at 9:05 p.m. MDT by the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team.
Seldon joined the Aggies' football program this summer and was scheduled to start classes in the fall semester. He initially played two seasons at New Mexico State, where he totaled 96 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and 13 passes defended in two years while also being voted a team captain.
"Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own," interim head coach and defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling said in a statement. "Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre's family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss."
The one-time Michigan transfer initially committed to TCU out of the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3, before following his former New Mexico State defensive coordinator Dreiling to Logan.
The former four-star prospect by 247Sports out of Belleville, Michigan, proclaimed his commitment May 20 with a simple post on social media: "It's a go," and a photo with coaching staffers that included Dreiling.

Among his final posts on social media platform X was a declaration of belief in Dreiling after the defensive coordinator was named interim head coach following the university's sudden firing of head coach Blake Anderson.
"We @USUFootball (are) in GREAT hands with Coach Dreiling," Seldon wrote of the defensive coach who became the youngest head coach in the Football Bowl Subdivision at 33.
Anderson and his wife, Brittany, both expressed their condolences on social media late Saturday night.
"Hurting tonight for so many," Anderson wrote. "Trusting in Him to bring peace and comfort for all who are in need of it during this time of tragedy. #NeverAlone"
Cache County deputies responded to a call about the possible drowning at 2:20 p.m. Saturday. The deputies were told "a young adult male was seen diving from cliffs into the water and did not resurface," said Lt. Tim Ramirez with the Cache County Sheriff's Office.
Dive units and search-and-rescue teams were sent to the scene and conducted a thorough search of the area, according to the sheriff's office.
