SALT LAKE CITY — A member of the beloved "Night Train" four-man bobsled team and three-time Olympian will now lead the organization.
Chris Fogt, an American Fork High graduate and former Utah Valley track star, has assumed his role as the next head coach of USA Bobsled, the United States Bobsled/Skeleton Federation announced Monday.
Fogt, 41, was a member of the four-man crew that brought home a silver medal in bobsledding at the 2015 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, joining teammates Steven Langton, Curtis Tomasevicz and the late Park City native Steven Holcomb on the podium.
He also competed in the two-man bobsled in Sochi en route to 10th place, and added Olympic berths in Vancouver in 2010 and PyeongChang in 2018.
Fogt takes over for esteemed bobsled athlete and coach Brian Shimer, who was named head coach following the 2022 Olympics. In two seasons at the head of the team, Shimer led the United States to 20 World Cup top-six medals and two World Championship medals during the 2022-23 season.
"I am humbled and excited to assume the role as head coach," Fogt said in a news release. "Brian has done an exceptional job leading the program and setting the team up for success at the 2026 Games and beyond."
A native of Orange Park, Florida, who grew up in Highland, Fogt lettered in football, tennis and track and field during a prep career at American Fork that won state titles in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 4x100-meter relay.
He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines before a career at Utah Valley that saw Fogt break six school records, including the indoor 60-meter dash, 300-meter dash, 400-meter run and outdoor 100-meter dash.
An intelligence office in the United States Army (and an Eagle Scout), Fogt was deployed to Iraq shortly after the Vancouver games and returned to active duty shortly after Sochi. He also served on the USA Bobsled/Skeleton board of directors and athlete advisory council.
