SOUTH SALT LAKE — A South Salt Lake man was charged with assaulting and threatening a family at an apartment complex at gunpoint on multiple occasions.
Jean De Deiu Sadiki, 26, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with five counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and child abuse, a class A misdemeanor.
In July 2022, a 9-year-old boy had been at the swimming pool at his apartment complex, when Sadiki arrived and started insulting the boy, punched him and shoved him into the pool, according to charging documents.
The boy's 13-year-old sister then confronted Sadiki and a fight ensued. Sadiki punched her in the face and shoulder, knocking her to the ground, the charges state. He continued to punch the girl and even "bit (her) on her thigh, breaking the skin," according to the charges.
About a week later, the 13-year-old girl and her adult sister saw Sadiki near the basketball court at the complex and confronted him about bullying, according to the charges, "at which point Sadiki pulled a gun from his backpack and began waving it around and pointing it in the direction (of the girls).
"Sadiki told (the woman) that if she kept messing with him, he would kill her," the charges state.
A few weeks after, the teen's mother spotted Sadiki and asked her daughter if he was the man who assaulted her. She said "yes," "but told (her mother) to leave it alone because she knew Sadiki had a gun," according to the charges.
The mother, however, still approached Sadiki, who pulled out his gun, pointed it at her "and told her he would shoot her," the charges state.
